Remembering Cynthia K. Cuyjet

CAASE mourns the loss of board member Cynthia K. Cuyjet. We are honored to have Cynthia as a dedicated board member since 2021. We are sending love and support to all of Cynthia’s family, friends, and loved ones during this time. Please join us in remembering Cynthia, whose adventurous spirit, immense kindness, and dedication to empowering survivors made our community better and always more compassionate.

Originally from Philadelphia, Cynthia spent nearly 40 years in Chicago. She was an avid traveler, always making it to holidays and special celebrations with loved ones and making sure to send a postcard from her most recent trip. Her career also took her around the world, as she led trainings in the U.S. and internationally.

Cynthia had many accomplishments and much to be proud of in her career and professional life. She was proud to have worked for ABN AMRO/La Salle Bank Corporation, the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, and Avon Products. More than 25 years ago, she founded Cuyjet Management Consultants (CMC, Inc.) through which she consulted, coached, and traveled to share her wisdom and expertise across the U.S. and internationally, via trainings (and ultimately, via webinars) for companies around the world. Cynthia was recognized in the Who’s Who of Professional Women in 2021 and 2022 and was a proud member of the Founders Circle of the Global Black Women’s Chamber of Commerce. She was also proud to belong to the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, an organization committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community.

After serving on the Board of the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago for many years, CAASE was lucky to have Cynthia join the CAASE Board of Directors in 2021.  She always approached her roles and responsibilities with care and pride, bringing joy, enthusiasm, and curiosity to all that she did. Her commitment to supporting and empowering survivors of gender-based violence shined brightly, and she was a generous mentor and guide to CAASE’s Executive Director, Kaethe Morris Hoffer.  Cynthia’s deep dedication to the CAASE community was evident to everyone she encountered at all the events she attended, and she never hesitated to step into doing work that was needed, always bringing kindness and warmth to her engagements with everyone she encountered. She championed CAASE as an enthusiastic ambassador and volunteered her time and professional expertise to this work generously. Cynthia always uplifted our mission and services, and our team and community will be forever grateful for her work and honored to be a part of her life. We will strive to continue to spread the passion, enthusiasm, and kindness that Cynthia always shared so generously with us to everyone we serve.
