Thanking Our Pro Bono Partners

September 5, 2019

Sexual assault and sex trafficking can lead to complex legal matters. CAASE’s Legal Program helps survivors through these difficult situations by providing high-quality legal representation to hundreds of clients each year. We are able to do so, in part, through the support of our Pro Bono Partners.

Private firm attorneys volunteer their expertise to help survivors of sexual harm through CAASE’s Pro Bono Project. CAASE attorneys assess clients’ legal needs and eligibility for services, link them with trained pro bono attorneys, and provide ongoing support and mentorship to pro bono attorneys representing CAASE-referred clients. Each year we hold an event to share our appreciation for the hard work and successes of the firms and pro bono attorneys who dedicate their time and energy to survivors of sexual exploitation and violence.

This year we honored the firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom L.L.P. As long-time supporters of CAASE, they’ve provided hundreds of hours of work on cases involving the Gender Violence Act, the protection of survivors’ rights within the context of criminal justice proceedings, and more. We also honored attorneys Precious Jacobs and Garrett Fitzsimmons of Jenner & Block L.L.P. for their work on behalf of a woman who was brought to the United States under false pretenses, where she was exploited and assaulted.

We’re so thankful this year’s honorees have chosen to be a part of CAASE’s Pro Bono Project. It’s a vital part of our Legal Program that helps us serve more clients, provides high-quality representation to survivors, and connects attorneys with fulfilling volunteer opportunities.
