4 Reasons to Join the Race for CAASE Team
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” – Audre Lorde
We’re living through a moment of brutal headlines, difficult conversations, and unrelenting confusion. Many people are feeling anxious and wish there was something they could do. It’s normal to be overwhelmed in challenging situations. The good news is that devoting yourself to a meaningful cause can counter that and feel empowering. You can make a difference by taking positive action!
That’s precisely why we’re looking forward to this year’s Race for CAASE. Running or walking to support our sexual harm prevention education programs comes with the feel-good energy of giving back, and it’s a means of direct action and self-care. By joining our team, you’re fortifying your community and so much more. Check out four reasons why you should sign up for the Race for CAASE:
Build Community
The Race for CAASE community is full of great people! As part of the Race Against Gun Violence, our team represents just one of the 60+ organizations included in this year’s event. We hope you’ll join us along with hundreds of other civic-minded people in Grant Park on June 3rd. Even if you choose to participate virtually, there will be opportunities to connect with your teammates on social media and more.
Practice Self-Care
Exercise isn’t just great for your physical health. It’s great for your mental and emotional health, too! Need more motivation? An event like the Race for CAASE can be a great way of staying accountable to a new movement routine! Whether you pledge an 8k run, 5k run, or 2-mile walk, knowing your efforts will help empower teens to become allies in ending sexual harm will spur you on.
Support Students
Because all the funds raised during the Race for CAASE go straight to our Prevention Education programming, your efforts directly support our free teen workshops. For example, a pledge to run a 5k and raise $200 will buy a month of materials for our student programs. By taking action and registering, you’ll help enable a new generation of activists and allies!
Honor Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and there’s no better way to mark the occasion than by supporting the prevention of sexual harm! Registering for the Race for CAASE team is one showing your commitment.
The Race for CAASE team will lace up on June 3, 2023, at 10AM in the Strides for Peace Race Against Gun Violence at Grant Park’s Arvey Field. For more information and registration details, visit our website. If you’d rather cheer from the sidelines, consider making a donation in support of the team.
