Our Community Engagement Manager\, Saunté Harden-Tate\, will be participating as a panelist. \nJoin us for a panel discussion in which we explore the life and motivation of the woman who created the “rape kit” in the 1970’s. Designed to preserve forensic evidence of sexual assault that would hold up in court\, this kit became an essential tool for women to confront their assailants. Pagan Kennedy\, the author of “The Secret History of the Rape Kit: A True Crime Story\,” will be interviewed by local media consultant Delmarie Cobb\, who will also moderate a panel composed of an ob-gyn who specializes in trauma-informed care; a community engagement coordinator of a local group working against sexual exploitation; and a forensic nursing specialist. In a media climate that has prominently featured stories of sexual exploitation\, this should be an important program that will provide a historical perspective on this issue\, as well as an exploration of the help available to today’s survivors. \nGeneral admission tickets are $25 and student tickets are $10. \nThis event will take place at Jane Addams Hull-House\, 800 S. DESCRIPTION:Third Thursday of each month\, 3-5PM CST \nSurviving the Mic: Virtually Together is an online gathering space for survivors of sexual harm and those who support them\, either personally or professionally or both.  \nThe virtual gathering happens on the third Thursday of each month\, from 3-5pmCST\, and is facilitated by Mojdeh Stoakley\, with occasional guest facilitators. The gathering begins with a check-in and dialogue on current events\, followed by a trauma-informed writing workshop designed for survivors of sexual harm. Attendees are invited to share their writing\, if comfortable. This is a drop-in event\, no RSVP is required.
