SUMMARY:Privacy Rights: The Difference a Pro Bono Attorney Can Make for a Crime Victim
DESCRIPTION:High-Quality Legal Representation Is Key to Supporting Survivors\nAccess to justice requires competent legal advocacy\, and yet\, too often victims of crime do not receive the legal representation that they need to protect their rights during the complex stages of criminal justice. These crime victim-survivors need your help! \nREGISTER NOW\nJoin us for one-hour training that will provide a general overview of victims’ rights\, guide you through the basic steps involved in representing crime victims and teach the “how to’s” of asserting and seeking enforcement of victims’ rights. This interactive training will focus on pretrial practice\, highlighting the right to privacy. We will discuss the use of motion practice\, analyze various legal arguments and learn practical skills to be able to provide pro bono representation to crime victim-survivors. \nThis event is part of the National Crime Victim Law Institute’s RISE (Rights in Systems Enforced) project funded through cooperative agreement 2018-V3-GX-K018 with the U.S. Department of Justice\, Office of Justice Programs\, Office for Victims of Crime. The opinions\, findings\, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this training are those of the contributors and do not necessarily represent the official position or policies of the U.S. Department of Justice. RISE is intended to provide crime victims/survivors with access to legal representation to assert and seek enforcement of their rights throughout the criminal justice process.
